Daily Reports
Day 2 - Friday, March 30

National Chair Art Stevens Reports:

At the U.S. Youth Multihull Championship regatta today it was practice race day in ideal 12-15 kts of northwesterly winds. Conditions were challenging and a few breakdowns were experienced. Crews learned you can’t stand on the spinnaker pole and not have it break in half. Also, spinnaker takedowns require a little less muscle and a little more technique. The challenge of using an asymmetrical spinnaker where you bring the wind around to weather going downwind is quite an experience and once you do it, you want to do it all the time.

US SAILING President Jim Capron, Jack Young of Performance Catamaran and Olympic Champion Pease Glaser came to ABYC today to show their support. After-race debriefing was conducted by Pete Melvin and regatta coach Richard Feeney. Using video, the kids could see for themselves what the coaches were talking about as they fine tune themselves for real racing starting tomorrow.
