After a breakfast supplied by host
club, St. Andrews Bay, all
seventeen Hobie 16s
left the beach and headed out to the
race course for the start of what would be the final day races. With
Hurricane Katrina headed towards the Gulf of Mexico, the race committee
had decided to hold as many races as possible and conclude today rather
than Sunday, as planned.
Michael Siau (Manlius, NY) and Sam Ingham
(Rochester, NY) had another outstanding day in this, their first
U.S. Youth Multihull Championship and are this year's recipients of the
Arthur J. Stevens Trophy. Siau will be too old to compete in
the 2006 ISAF Youth Worlds therefore
Evan Miller (Panama City, Fla.) and Kyler Hast (Lynn Haven, Fla.) who
took second overall, will represent the United States at the 2006 ISAF Youth Worlds in Weymouth, England.
Siau and Ingham will instead represent the United States in October at
the Catagolfe regatta in France.
This evening, the awards ceremony will
be held, where the Stevens Trophy and the W. Darline Hobock Sportsmanship
Award will be presented. Final results will be posted as soon as they
are available.
The weather is predicted to worsen and
everyone is pleased to have completed the championship before Katrina
makes her appearance. Chair Dan Mangus praised the hospitality and
flexibility of host St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club who were able to
reorganize all of the events to accommodate the changing conditions.
