INTRODUCTION

Numbering System for Racing Yachts

Block of numbers are assigned on an area basis and were first issued by N.A.Y.R.U. or by a Member Association as follows:

0001 – 3999 From Halifax to Corpus Christi including Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

Contact N.A.Y.R.U except for:

Ripple Optimist Clinic

Summer 2010, Cascade Locks Oregon

3001 – 2500 Chesapeake Bay

4000 – 4250 Canadian Yachting Association

5000 – 5999 Detroit River Yachting Association

6000 – 6999 Lake Michigan Yachting Association including Lake Huron

7000 – 7999 Southern California Yachting Association

8000 – 8999 Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay

9000 – 9999 Pacific International Yachting Association

29000 – 29250 Hawaii Yacht Racing Association

When an Area has used up its assigned block of numbers it will add as a prefix the digit “1”, “2”, etc. so that in the case of the Detroit River Y.A., for example, numbers 15000 – 15999 will be issued followed successively by 25000 – 25999, and so forth.

One Design Class numbering shall be allocated by the class and confirmed by P.I.Y.A.

PIYA numbers are assigned to individual boats and remain with that boat. When changes in ownership happen PIYA must be notified. Boats purchased from another area may retain that boats sail number after PIYA is notified and that sail number registered.

On November 23, 1994 the Canadian Yachting Association gave the authorization to issue sail numbers to British Columbia via BC Sailing for Canadian boats.
