HYRA/HYSA #3 LASER 19 February 2006

On the morning of 19 February the air was still and the clouds leaden.  At 09:00 Walt brought the news that the NWS had issued a thunderstorm warning until 10:00.  We delayed opening registrations until we could make a determination whether the conditions would allow a race that day.  At 10:00 the warning was lifted and there was a breath of wind.

The racers were rigged and wanted to race. We opened registrations and announced that the race schedule was delayed one hour.  The course was set by 12:20 and the first race started at 12:28.  The winds started off light and variable (which had delayed the setting of the marks) but continued to build throughout the first five races.

Because of clocking winds, the marks were moved twice and as the wind increased the distance between marks was increased.  We got all six races in by our original closing time and the pizza, drinks and cookies were waiting for the racers when they got back to the docks.

An awards ceremony began at 16:00.  Prizes for the first three places in both classes (Laser A and Laser B) were provided by the hosting club, the Pearl Harbor Yacht Club.  All participants were given a drink coozie courtesy of the US Navy MWR.

Our thanks to the US Navy MWR and their Rainbow Bay Marina staff; Anne, Shamus, and Walt.  My thanks to the members of the Pearl Harbor Yacht Club who's efforts made this race a success.
