Aloha,

Many Mahalos for the Chili team, fencing is coming along, lots of reasons to come to the meetings and patronize the club.

What can I say, except thank you, thank you, for another great open house and chili cooking event.  I hope you all had a great time, I saw a lot of potential new members and everyone had a great time.

The fencing is progressing - who can complain with the price we are getting on this one.  I apologize if your boat is being held hostage, I think you can expect to be parking on the street very soon as it looks as though the paving team has completed their projects on the Iroquois drive and I expect they will be coming to our club next.  Please bear with us during this evolution and rather than provide the contractors or landlord direction please call me. We need only one voice and no churn when it comes to projects being paid for by the landlord. If you see a problem, don't hesitate to call 620-1719 as many of you already have. I'll fix it or explain why it is what it is.

Time to come on down and enjoy the club and let your voice be heard on some important decisions; electing a new governing BOD, setting the operating budget for next year. The nominating committee, to be assigned during our October, will be calling you to ask for your input, consider serving it's a great way to make a difference and feel good about supporting the greatest boat club in Hawaii. Don't forget your facilities and port captain need your continued support with their projects, not just on work days.

One saved round, lot's of folks have been talking about an overnighter in honor of the great discoverer Columbus, I've heard the destination for some is Hawaii Kai and for some Molokai - come on down and sign up.

 Mike

Aloha, and a big mahalo to all members, guest and participants in this years annual Chili Cook-Off and open house.  From all accounts and reports that I've received, the Chili Cook-Off was a great success.  I would like to apologize to each and everyone of you for my being absent and dropping the ball at the last hour.  I know that it took the efforts, coordination and team work of everyone involved to help make the event the success that it ultimately turned out to be.  Thank you to everyone that stepped up and pitched in to help out in every detail.  I would like to personally thank Beth Snodgrass for actually taking charge and taking the responsibilities of the Vice Commodore.  Thank you Beth, you are my angel and I love you for that.  This is just one of the many incidents that have risen in the last month when the membership has jumped in and volunteered their services when it was needed. These are the small things that make a big difference in an organization and these are the things that make our organization so great.

As we end this years business with the present Board Of Directors, keep in mind nomination for new board members, maybe you would like to be a board member or you know of a member that is dying to step up.  Plan on being at the November meeting for elections and planning a budget for the next year.  Iroquois Lagoon Yacht Club is the greatest yacht club on the island because we are a self help organization.  In order to continue to help ourselves we have to continue to change and upgrade our facilities.  This is just a reminder or hint that fees may have to be adjusted in order to facilitate change.

Thank you again,

Vice Commodore

Louis Rogers

If you missed the Chili Cook-off you missed the party of the year.   Even though it was a scramble to get everything into order—you all came through in the clutch.  This year we introduced slightly different dinghy races—using the 14’ Widgeons—with Brian and Heather Skubin inching out Alex Nichols and Willie Bethea to advance to the final round and win the tournament over our Tim Dubois and his friend Blue.  We also had one other offshore in which Moonrunner whipped up on Jacaré (after the corrected time!) and earned two big points toward the final.

In October we have an inshore race scheduled for the 14th and an offshore for the 21st.  Also, most of us have a 4-day weekend thanks to Christopher Columbus’ discovery and I’d like to put together an inter-island or at least a raft-up.  The final location can be discussed at next week’s meeting—so come on down and let us hear how you would like to spend this long weekend in our little corner of paradise.

Aloha,

Great times were had by all at the chili cook-off and we need you to quickly pay mooring fees to help finance it. Speaking of mooring fees, everyone should have received the fourth quarter bill.  Please remember that payment is due no later than 16 October.

Questions or comments- please send an email or call me at home; complaints - please give them to the Vice Commodore.

Mahalo,

Charlie

Aloha All;

It seems that everyone had an excellent time at the super Chili Cook off.  Was well done and I wish to say thank you to all that went the extra mile to make it happen.  There will be a couple more fishing tourneys but it is time to pick a time for the final power party (could be part of the xmas party) and use up my budget (sorry Charlie).  Also, don't forget that elections will be coming up so start thinking about who you want to represent you on the board or maybe you might think you want to run.  The next fishing tourney is Sunday October 1st.  Hope to have lots of participation.  Take care, stay safe.

The Chili Cook-off was first rate, lots of fun had by all, and quite a good crowd got to experience our little piece of paradise. But back to reality... for workday the Port Captain workers will be installing additional anchor cables on the head of the west pier and also will continue to work on patching up the old pier. The piers are running close to full now, only a couple of slips open and I have gotten several inquires from perspective members, business is good! Also we are expecting a possible reserve detachment to help with a construction project in Mar 07 timeframe so we need to come up with some good ideas on how to best utilize them.

Well Summer has come and gone, fall is here for all to enjoy…that’s what the calendar tells me anyway, pretty much feels the same to me.  All that aside here at ILYC it’s actually time to start thinking about 2007.  Last year (and pretty much every year) the Board of Directors get a lot of flack for the prices of our dues and moorage, as well as just who is always on the Board.  I’d like to take this moment to remind you all that it is the membership of this club that sets and determines the dues and fees we all pay, not the Board of Directors.  It is you the membership, that determine if we are going to rebuild a pier, reroof the club house, build a latrine, or take on any number of other projects this club has completed in the past.  If you want to be a part of the process to determine what projects we take on in the future, what the fees and dues are going to be for 2007, then attend the General Membership meetings, especially the Fall meetings.  And if you don’t like who is on the BOD, step up and take a swing at one of our jobs, most of us (okay some of us) would gladly let someone else that is truly interested take over our positions on the Board.  Not that we don’t like being on the Board, it’s just that we too would like to see some new faces helping to run this place.  If you want to run for any office (yes any office) on the Board of Directors just let one of the members of the nominating committee know that you are interested and your name will appear on the ballot.

Speaking of new faces did you know that the all of the wet slips here at ILYC are assigned to members?  This is the first time since 9/11 we’ve been at full capacity.  What does that mean, well on the bright side it means there are plenty of those bright shinny new faces in the club, and lots of “new” boats to check out and we are at our full income potential.  On the dark side this means we will once again have to start waiting and bump lists.  Since there are more members of the club in the “all others” category compared to “Active Duty Military” we will actually be giving preference to any new Active Duty personnel that wish to become members.  Until such time as we have a 50/50 split between the Active Duty and All Others.  Yet another reason to attend the monthly membership and BOD meetings, keep up to date on the moorage situation at the club.

This is a self governed, participation organization…please come down to the meetings and participate in keeping this club one of the greatest little corners of our island paradise.

NO…VOTE – NO…GRUMBLE

Director of Activities

Willy Bethea

  Wow what a time.

Thanks to all that helped make the Chili cook off a huge success. If you have any ideas on how to make it better next year be sure and get up with Tony, he’s putting together a spread sheet.

Well we’re into the last few months of the year, activities will be mainly limited to the work days and then a big blow out for a Christmas party, yes, Christmas is just a few months away, better start that shopping now.

Aloha

            Willy Bethea

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, a Big Mac in one hand, drink in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "yahoo what a ride!"

CCO 2006 was another successful endeavor. I felt proud of our club in the hospitality provided to friends and neighbors. In fact, my neighbor and his family attended the event and he made a point of telling me that we were the friendliest bunch of people he had seen. His only downer was that his 4 year old refused to get out of the jumpy house.  Time to think about two big events coming up. At the November meeting we vote on next years fees. If you can’t attend at least provide input to a board member. To borrow a phrase ”no vote, no grumble“. I recommend you attend and be part of it. Second event is nominations for 2007 board of directors. Get involved!

US Coast Guard Auxiliary news:

Flotilla 16 of the Coast Guard Auxiliary used to meet at ILYC and several members of the club participated.  The meeting place about 3 years ago was moved to another location. It is in the works to move flotilla 16 back to the Leeward side and to again holding meetings at ILYC. This should bring back some former members. We would also like to have more ILYC members join us.  I you are interested talk to me, Roger, or Mike.

Chandlery

Beth Snodgrass and Lori Cameron

If you missed the Chili Cook-off then you haven't had a chance to check out the newest Iroquois Lagoon t-shirts and tanks.  Due to budget limitations, we were only able to order a limited supply and the tanks were the first to be sold out (yeeaa!).  We still have a few red t-shirts available and quite a few of the new blue and grey t-shirts.  We're currently out of hats but should have some coming in soon.  As money allows, we'll be putting in orders for more polos and more tanks.  The Chandlery also has some beautiful pictures (overhead shots) of the club and lagoon available in a variety of sizes and prices starting @ $4.00.
Let either Lori or I know if there's something you'd like to see in the chandlery.  See you at the club!!
