Aloha,

We had an enjoyable opening day ceremony, and I’m soliciting for your continued labor.  Our opening day along with HYC, HWYRA, and HYRA hosted by WYC; was a joyous celebration of good fellowship, interesting and relevant information and of course, great food!  Thanks to members, Doreen, Louis, Tom and Nancy, ILYC was well represented. The following day, Sunday, Kaneohe's opening day started slow with considerable falling moisture, though by 1100 the place was full and again the food was delicious. I'll provide more details of these events and guest speakers during our March meeting. Specifically LtGov Duke Aiona's request for boaters to let their voice be heard not only to their respective local representatives, but just as important, you must contact those serving on the finance committees and solicit their support once an initiative has passed it's first hurdle of the legislative process.

Speaking of processes, how about the pier repair - it's going great, and we really need your help over the next two months to put on the final touches and then help us by participating in a party of good food and celebration as we officially cut the ribbon and declare it finished.  Watch the calendar for work days and come on out.  Your help is crucial as we hope to complete this project by mid April.

For now though, March is here and I for one can’t wait until this funky power boating weather passes and the trades return.

Mike

Aloha, and to every one that wasn't present at the opening day festivities celebrated at the WYC and the HYC on Feb 18th, well you missed a spectacular event.  I would like to give my personal thanks to Tom and Nancy Hargreaves for their consideration in letting their boat represent ILYC.  I think that maybe everyone else were more impressed with ILYC than we were with their club and facilities even though they were very impressive

Now that the formalities are out of the way, I'd like to tune in to a more serious subject that deals with ILYC.  That subject, my fellow members is participation in club events, especially work days.

The participation in work days has been good these past few months, but it could be much better.  Remember people this is not a marina, it is a club. Members of the club are expected to do more than just pay their dues and fees; we expect and need you to participate.  If you do not participate in club work days and or club functions, the club will surely fail.  With your participation we will keep this club financially and physically safe for all to use.  If all you are looking for is somewhere to just pay slip fees so you can keep your boat there, ILYC is not the place for you or your boat.  There are full service MWR marinas at Pearl or Hickam, as well as the state and private facilities outside Pearl Harbor.  Here at ILYC we expect much more of you.  We expect you to help keep up the facility, the piers and especially to clean-up after yourself and your guests.  The Board of Directors try to be good stewards of both the club’s physical assets and money.  In order for us to do our jobs, we need all club members to participate in helping to keep the club in good shape.  If we don’t get enough participation, then we have to pay for things and fees and dues will have to be raised.  So please help us, help you to keep the fees and dues low; let’s all work together to keep the club safe, in functional order and looking as good as possible.  Many of you are participating in club activities and work days…witness all the work on the piers, the new roof on the club house and many other projects and clean-up parties around our facilities.  But there are still a few stragglers out there that need to come in and help out…you know who you are…come on down and join in the fun, participate in making this a great club...and don't forget everyone should volunteer to work the Chili Cook-Off

I’ve gotten lots of really good ideas from club members for ways to improve The Arrow, what I haven’t gotten are any articles…all the suggested improvements need people to provide me with articles or helpful hints and advice.  If you have any “cooking on your knees” (yes, I started sailing in small boats) recipes please share them with your fellow club members.  I’m sure everyone has learned something “the hard way” about taking care or handling your boat, again share the experience…if your not real comfortable “writing an article” come talk to me and let me know you’ve got some info to pass on to the club, but would like me to write the article, I’ll interview you, take notes and see if I can’t put your words together…I’m the editor people, I just put this thing together, I don’t write all of the articles, I need help from you guys and gals to do that, all of you.

Rough around the edges, rude and lacks common editorial sense

Thanks to everyone who showed up for the last workday.  The next one is the 4th and 5th of March.  You get a work chit for one of those days if you show up and do the work.  These are pier work days, we need to get the pier finished and we're getting pretty close. I'll take care of the facilities jobs, you guys & gals take care of the new pier.

I will be available for VE’s again next workday, 4 March, when work day pau. I have a limited number of 2006 stickers. I will give those to the people would had VE’s done last workday and for the ones performed this workday.  Remember that the VE is for a calendar year so if you had one in 2005 you still need 2006. Stickers for 2006 are cool so don’t wait.
