Text Box: MEMBER NEWS CORNER
We want to announce Heather Skubin’s anticipated Bouncing Baby Boy (BBB) in September and her BBB shower on Saturday, August 18th at 2:00 p.m.
We wish to thank everyone for your company, kindness and aloha gifts. We haven't been around the "Club" much lately. Once we came back to say our goodbyes, we realized how much we'll miss the easygoing times we had w/ many of the club's members. The days we got together and shared stories & potluck. Mbr's calling b/c our kids were not at the club swimming but home doing chores. I remember many good times having Andy C. cooking beer batter halibut, Will & I trying to fix the Rose when we dropped the mast bow forward & not aft! I also sailed the Lady trying to beat the Puff, lol. That could never have happened!! But I can dream can't I? To the wine Mike & Doreen gave as a X-Mas gift which we can't bear to drink b/c it can't be replaced! To sailing the Kaui Channel race & vowing to never leave behind foul weather gear again, even if it is Hawaii!! I hope all the friends we have made continue to have good times & think of us freezing our "butts" off in Alaska!
We'll be thinking of you,
Aloha & Farewell

Aloha,

TRANSPAC racers are underway, and the CCO is coming up fast, so look to our event coordinators to see what you can do to join us for a great time. Our lease has been extended and there is reason to be mindful of non-members at the club. Oh, and we are getting our sink back in the galley.

With all that’s happening with your club in the next two months, check the newsletter schedule and come on down. TRANSPAC has started and by the time you read this Skylark will have started and be on their way, looking forward to meeting ya’ll at the post race receiving party we are hosting down at the Ala Wai.  Al and Lori need your help on this one, please step up, sign up, and do a little as there are lot’s of small parts to pull together, it’s sure to be a memorable event.  Louis and Sue are working hard getting the CCO details completed, check with Sue to get your complementary tickets, up to 10 per family, and at the same time let her know what you can do for an hour or so before, after, or during the event. Throwing a party for 300 folks is best when hosted by us all rather than a few.

Our landlord has opted to exercise the six month extension provided for in our lease, so we will renew the lease in December.  I’ll report more on the lease in future months as we negotiate for a term greater than 2 years and a provision to include the cost of the new east pier should the landlord decide to bring in a manager.

One of our members has experienced what appears to be theft of personal belongings from their boat and contamination of fuel.  It goes without saying this is criminal and moreover can result in someone getting hurt or dying, lost at sea.  Going off-shore in Hawaiian waters with contaminated fuel, well you know what could happen; none of which would be desirable.  I request of each of you to approach folks in the club and introduce yourself, meet the new and old members, and those that shouldn’t be on club grounds, if would you get a name and reason for their visit.  You can escort /sponsor these folks after they sign in or you can ask them to leave.  If it doesn’t feel right please contact a board member to ensure we know of anyone frequenting the club that doesn’t belong.  We are our own best deterrent to crime and protecting each others personal property. This is serious, I need your help.

Though at first we thought it impossible, our landlord has found a way to pipe the sink drain, so expect to see a few folks in the club to re-install the sink in the galley. Oh, and we have a new on site manager, his name is Duane. Introduce yourself if you see him.  He has a key and will frequent the property and provide access for the work crew to plumb the sink.

On a lighter note, the slips are nearly full. The club is looking great, don’t forget to water the lawn a bit in the evening, this is a club effort. Just like cleaning up after yourself, and keeping the place clean, neat and safe.  I’ll be out of pocket for a couple of weeks, I’m going to go see what the great nanook does during the summer, probably even stay up all night.  Good luck fishing in the upcoming tournament!

 Seeyaonthewater,

 Mike

Just a reminder to everyone - mark your calendars for the Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, September 8th

Every year, it is our intent to have the best and most successful cook-off ever.  And, by success we don't necessarily mean to make a profit. However, we would like to break even and not go in the "red".  Therefore, we need your participate in every aspect of this organization in order for us to be a success at any thing we do

ILYC members are entitled to free tickets for you and your friends. Tickets for the event are available from Sue Fuller fuller@omsoft.com.  Please email, call (255-7976) or come down at sunsets, on work days, or general meetings to get your tickets and sign up to volunteer. Help is needed for tent and table set-up, food and beer service, tear-down, etc.

So, come on down to the club and place your "X" in whatever you think you would be happy to help with. If you need any further information give me a phone call at 689-8202 or e-mail me at louisrogers@hawaii.rr.com and let me know what your interests are.

Also, check out the web site for information on how to enter, the schedule of the day’s events, and more! http://www.ussailing.net/ilyc/ChiliCookoff.htm

Director of Facilities

Gary Harvell

Great workday this past Saturday, lots of members came out and quite a lot of clean-up was accomplished around the club.  Thank you all for your help and cooperation.  It takes all of us to keep up with the club and grounds.

One of the things completed was the removal of unclaimed watercraft off of the boat rack.  All were removed and are laying by the fence.  If these are not claimed by the next workday in August, they will be disposed of.  If we have removed your item from the rack, you may return it by tagging it with your name.  Tags are available next to the phone.  Any member wanting the unclaimed items my tag them, but you cannot remove them until August.

Also a few of the lockers that were not marked with names have had the locks cut off.  If these lockers belong to you please let me know.  Those that have been cut are available for any members who would like a locker.  There are NO SHEDS available at this time.

August workday will be a busy time as we prepare the club for the September Chili Cook-off.  Please come out and support the club and help to put the best looking club on Ohau open to our guests.

Have fun, good fishing or sailing and see you around the club.

Paid Mooring Fees?  If you are reading this item and wonder if you have paid yet – got some bad news for you.  The due date was 16 July and if you haven’t paid the fees then save those work chits for next quarter because I can’t honor them past the due date.  On the other hand – if you have paid then you have two more work days to earn work chits for the next quarter!  Thanks to all of you that paid mooring fees promptly.

Secretary

So are you feeling the withdrawal pains yet?  It’s been nearly weeks since your last edition of The Arrow.  This month’s deferred meeting night, due to the 4th of July holiday has meant The Arrow too was deferred for over a week.  But never fear, we are back and with lots and lots of club news and rants.

Please check out the calendar and if you can help out with TRANSPAC there are still lots and lots of volunteer opportunities just waiting for right person to step up and have some fun…

I’ve included a notice I found about DLNR’s intentions to create an artificial reef south west of Pearl just off shore from where the new Ocean Point marina is under construction.  As far as I can tell this could be a real boon for fishing and or scuba diving…I think.  If you know of items of interest happen in, around or to our island waters please share that information with me, and I in turn will share it with all club members.

Aloha and mahalo for a great month of ILYC gatherings. We had a great 4th of July BBQ many great unannounced Fish grills and some good poker nights. Their are no more sponsored party's for ILYC the rest of July, but we do have a Fishing event on the 28th, so hopefully we will have fresh fish to eat. August brings the poker tournament, so get online and practice up or join one of our many "pick-up" games. Thanks to all for the outpouring of support at this month's meeting and increasing the Activities budget. See you all soon out on the water or sitting in the club area having a cool beverage. Keep pitching in to help keep the club clean, trash emptied and dogs leashed. Aloha

We had a potential new member at the meeting, Wesley Moore, and our little corner of paradise will be unofficially full again when he joins.  This puts us at just over 40% active duty but don't get too nervous yet.  If we have other active duty members requesting slips, we may be able to move some boats around to keep active boats in slips.

We have several permits that are expiring in July and August.  Please look at the list below, make sure you get your paperwork together and have port ops make an extra copy of your permit for me!  Permits expiring are: Lobo and Hook Driver 31 July; Po-po and Dan's Cal 2-27 on 31 Aug.

There was also one serious mishap with one of our powerboats.  The gas cap was missing off the boat and the fuel appeared to be contaminated.  This incident is not only costly but very dangerous as the boat lost power at sea and fortunately limped back home. Please keep an eye out for anyone who doesn't belong in the club.

Thanks for all your help,

Tony Snodgrass
