SuperBowl Party at the Club Sunday Feb 4th

Bring your favorite PuPu and Beverage

Commodore

Mike Vining

Aloha,

High winds, opening days, super bowl party, a three day weekend for celebrating presidents day and a gripe for picking up after yourself.

Hope you all have checked that your boat is secured sprung, and bumper properly. Expect high winds for the foreseeable future as the next few fronts move through until we get our high pressure system established again in May. No staff means your boat will beat it self until you, or a concerned fellow member happens along and helps you out.

Opening day for the five leeward side clubs will be held 17 February at WYC, that's Pacific YC, Pearl YC, HYC, WYC and ILYC. Blue coat for Rear Commodores and the like, aloha attire for others. The flyer will be posted at the club, expect brunch and a pass and review for blessing your vessel for a safe season of boating for you and those aboard. Expect to RSVP for brunch, you need not attend brunch to participate in the blessing.  This is a fun event, a super "kick off" for the year's sail /race and power events. I encourage you to attend.  The windward side opening day will be held the next day, Sunday 18 February at Kaneohe YC brunch from 0900-1100. There will be a cartoon theme boat parade and COWEN Shield sailboat races to follow.

Speaking of Kick-offs your activity director requests your attendance Sunday - 4 February, sign up and bring a pot luck dish - I'll go for the underdog, keep your 7 points; da Bears!

Please kokua and pick up after yourself; dump your trash from your boat in the green dumpster not in the receptacles by the club. Sweep up after yourself in the club; especially if you like to put your cigarettes out on the deck; why you would put your buts out on the deck is beyond me. But, thanks for picking up the broom from time to time, tossing the trash out in the dumpster when those darn trash cans around the club are full, for emptying the fridge occasionally and keeping the club neat clean and organized.  Thanks to the few of you that already pitch in while you enjoy the unique special club we share. Without your help the club would soon be overrun with rubbish, insects and critters of all types. For the rest of you, thanks in advance for your participation.  As the club patronage has really increased again it's more important we all do our share.

Seeyaonthewater,

Mike

Vice Commodore

Louis Rogers

Aloha to everyone, members and soon to be members.  This year is moving along at a fast pace and the time seems to be faster at the starting gate than me at every occasion.  On that note, I'd like to thank every one for their participation in the last work day.  There was a lot accomplished with the help of so many hands and minds.  We made a great team.  However, there's still slots available for this up coming work day.  Just remember that when the work is over there is always time to just sit around with other boaters and chew the fat, shoot the breeze or just talk story.  I hope to see you at the club and on the water.

RC for Sail

Tim DuBois

Well the January race was a bust, light to no wind seemed to be the order of the day. Next race is 3 February and it is the annual Wahine Classic in honor of Valentine ’s Day. The race will be held on the inshore course. Basic rules are that a Wahine skipper must drive the boat the entire race, no testosterone on the helm. It will be a reverse start so the first across the finish line wins!!  The offshore race for February will be held on the 17th, winds permitting, we’ll be trying a new race course. See you on the water!!

The date for the first Fishing Tournament of 2007 is Saturday, March 3rd.  The entry fee is still $50 a boat.  You can sign up in one of the following ways:

·         emailing me, gaydos@omsoft.com, that you will join or

·         mailing me your entry fee, 91-2047 Kaioli Street, #2601 Ewa Beach, HI 96706 or

·         calling me at (530) 757-7788

If I don’t catch you before the tournament date, I will collect from you then. Rules of the tournament will be posted on the bulletin board and in the next newsletter.

I have also posted an ILYC Power Boaters list on the bulletin board at the club.  When you are down there and have a chance, please ensure I have your correct information.

I have contacted the US Power Squadron and requested a speaker to hold a 90 minute seminar to discuss local navigation tips, radios usage, and towing procedures.  More to follow. . .

Secretary

Allan (sea story) Cameron

As we move thru the 32nd year of our Yacht Club, I need to remind a few of you that this could be your last copy of The Arrow.  Please pay your dues to our esteemed Treasurer by the end of January or you will be dropped from our membership rolls.  Before we switch over to a new 2007 membership roster, our ILYC membership broke thru 90…ILYC is growing, our docks are full of boats (almost completely), the clubhouse lanai seems to always have people hanging out, eating, drinking, or just talking story.  There is a new TV (with cable and surround sound), a Road Runner “Hot Spot” for computer users (anyone with a Road Runner account can bring your computer down to the club and use the “Hot Spot” for free) and of course there are kids everywhere.  Even the fish seem to be flourishing in our little lagoon.  So please pay your dues, and come on down and enjoy our little corner of Paradise.

Once again I want to put in a plug for using the classified ads here in The Arrow.  Our Ditty Bag section not only is a place where you just might find that perfect buyer for the goods and materials you want to sell, but it also lets the club membership act as your sales team should a visitor come knocking on our door, especially if what you are trying to sell is a boat or trailer.  Every weekend we get a couple of visitors knocking at the gate wanting to know about the club and inevitably during the conversation the question will come to “do you have a boat?” or “are there any boats for sale here?”.  If you’ve placed a Ditty Bag ad here in The Arrow, whomever is talking to the visitor will have seen that ad, or can walk over to the copy of The Arrow posted on the bulletin board and refer to the information you’ve posted.  You just might find that one buyer you need to make the sale…

Have you been to the ILYC web site recently?  Tony (our webmaster) has been busy adding pictures and other information to the web site, so if you’ve not been there recently, go check it out.  Ever delete the e-mail I send out with the newsletter attached, well don’t despair, the ILYC web site has all of our newsletters for the last two and half years.  And that is also where you can view the annual ILYC calendar.  Yes, we annually publish a monthly listing of things happening at ILYC.  And yes, for the second year in a row it is laid out in a traditional calendar format.  Hopefully, this year I’ve deleted all the leave and TDY annotations from the calendar for my guys at work…last year I forgot to delete a few of their items…oops.  I always have a small calendar section here in The Arrow for the upcoming month, but if you want to see the whole year in advance, please check out the web site calendar.

If you’ve got any ideas on how we can make the web site more useful to you, please let me, Tony or any member of the Board know.  We really would like to use the web site as a tool for getting even more information out to all club members.

Port Captain

Tony Snodgrass

Aloha,

Two boats (that I know of) have permits expiring in Feb—Jacaré and Wailana.

I’m still settling into the paperwork end of being the Port Captain and I’m missing the mooring agreement and copies of current permits for several boats.  I’ve posted a worksheet on the slip diagram board at the club that shows those boats from whom I need paperwork.  This is important because our slips are nearly full and the first bumped out of a slip will be those members “not in good standing”—read that as not having valid permits, unpaid mooring fees…  Also, the Active Duty percentage is only 45% so the next two people on AD requesting slips may start bumping some of the non-active duty folks.

For workday this month we have a couple of projects on tap.  We have the screws to finish securing the planks on the T-Pier (bring your drills if you have them) and the flexible waterline that connects the pier sections must be replaced.  There may be further repairs needed on the old side also.  Finally, I should have more news about the dock boxes by the next meeting.

I look forward to seeing all of you around our little corner of paradise!

Treasurer

Charlie Crews

Aloha,

Thanks to the vast majority of you that sent in your mooring fees and annual dues on time. In keeping with the Aloha spirit (and aloha time), I will wait until the February meeting (07 February) to formally announce the “members not in good standing” for failure to pay annual dues.

The club has an ambitious schedule of activities upcoming in 2007; it would be a shame to be on the outside looking in and not be able to participate for failure to pay dues.

Director of Activities

Larry Rock

Another great month of gatherings has come and gone. Even though there were no scheduled activities other than the New Year’s party, I hope you were all part of some of the impromptu gatherings over a couple different weekends during January. The food was delicious and the drink was plenty. We can thank our Commodore for a “Low-Down Country Boil” and some terrific fish. Due to the generosity of a couple members, the tenacity of our Staff we now have cable, a “Hot Spot”, a new TV and Theater sound system. This will serve us well if we do decide on a Super Bowl party. I haven’t had much feedback about a Super Bowl Party so if you are interested please contact me as soon as you can. The next Poker Night will be scheduled during our monthly BOD/Membership meeting, so if you have a preference on the date please come make your voice heard.  There is not much on tap for Feb 07 as far as activities, but come out and take part in some of our many unscheduled “Grill Fests” and enjoy the membership in our own little slice of paradise known as the ILYC.

Director of Facilities

Gary Harvell

I would like to thank everyone who turned out for our January Work Day.  Many things were accomplished with many more to go!!!   I look forward to our next work day on February 10th.  One of the things that has to be accomplished is identifying who is using which shed and locker.  In keeping with this, please let me know which shed or locker you are using.  Thank you again and hope to see a good turnout of our members at the general meeting on February 7 and the workday on February 10th.

Staff Commodore

Tom Youngblood

I have Coast Guard 2007 stickers for those who need/want vessel exams. I will be available after workday to do exams at the club. For anyone interested, West Marine is hiring truck crew. See Mike or me for details.
