Aloha,
Lucky we live Hawaii, lots of sailing, fishing, not so much catching, but lots of folks having fun on the water. Your Rear Commodore for Power has more power and less cash these days, surely a happy captain with a bigger boat coming in to moor real soon. Speaking of real soon, Senorita’s Fishing Tournament will be here 21-22 April, let’s talk it up and see if we can’t get a team of fishing wahine to reel in the big ones. The month of May will bring an opportunity for getting away over the long Memorial Day holiday and it will be here before you know it. Anyone interested in a club cruise, Molokai, Lanai or Maui..??..lets get a plan to go.
An update on our telephone, the deal hasn’t worked out as planned, the service was estimated to have been installed after the first of the year. Just so you are aware, we pay more now because we still have the old telephone service charges in addition to the cable TV which also gives us our free internet. Not real sure when, or if ever Oceanic will offer us digital phone service.
Good news, the new grill is bought and paid for, and it’s not nearly as finicky as the old set-up, so plan to bring something for the BBQ for your next visit and enjoy it.
Mahalo to members who have provided such dedication of time recently, all your hard work around the club realy shows. There is always lot’s more to do, so come on down for work day, 7 April.

Mike

Aloha to all members,
Another month has come and we’ve had retirement celebrations along with the historic Irish St Patrick’s day celebration. And to boot, just as many fishing and sailing events. In other words, there’s been a lot of action around the club lately and as far as I can tell the future will be just as exciting. Just a reminder, the 7th of April is work day, and we could always use some extra elbow grease or that special expertise that mostly we all have an abundance of. So, if you really want to get to know the other members of your club, most of the regulars will be there with our sleeves rolled up, gloves on and ready for your instructions. Hope to see you at the club and on the water.
Vice, Louis

Aloha
Prime sailing season is upon us and there are two races scheduled for April, the 14th will be inshore and the 28th will be offshore. The last March race was preempted when virtually all the racing skippers decided to run Puff in the Waikiki to Ko Olina HYRA race. With winds blowing 20 knots and 4-6 foot seas behind us the spinnaker run to Ko Olina was fast and fun with everyone getting a turn trimming the chute, or should I say the chute was wearing out the trimmers at a pretty good clip. The return trip was under a double reefed main and #4 jib, but Puff performed flawlessly in 20-25 knots as we beat our way up the coast. Mark you calendars! Memorial Day is coming up and I know for sure S/V Colette is getting underway bound for someplace fun, let’s get some boats together, pick a destination, and have a party someplace. Pokai? Lanai? Molokai? Makua? Think about it and bring your ideas to the next meeting.
See you on the water

You all get a break from my usual ranting and raving this month, and boy did I have some doozeys to let loose with, what with Fish boat skippers emptying the ice machine just prior to the weekend, smokers still throwing their cigarette butts on the lanai and deck, boat owners taking carts down to their finger piers and leaving them at empty slips while others are looking for the carts, and the usual rant about using the dumpster for your boat trash, why do you think someone else should take your trash out to the dumpster for you?…that is what you do each and every time you bring the trash from your boat up to the lanai and use the trash cans there instead of walking the extra few feet out to the dumpster. Okay I lied, ranting and raving is what I do…
People please think of others, when you use the facilities of the club, try to leave them in good working order and cleaned up for the next family or club member. If you use up the soap in the bathroom, don’t whine about the Facilities Director not putting enough soap in the dispenser (it’s not his job by the way), go get the soap refill and fill the dispenser. If there is no refill in the kitchen, then tell the Facilities Director he needs to buy some more soap (that is his job). A little common courtesy really goes a long way.

Aloha.
Ah, April – time for spring cleaning, filing of taxes and paying your second quarter mooring fees. Yep, you should have received an e-mail bill for your mooring fees, payment has to be made no later than 16 April if you plan to use those work chits (a maximum of two per quarter).

All, many thanks for the wonderful turnout and gifts received at the retirement/St. Patrick’s Day party. Many of you took time out of your busy schedules to attend and I truly appreciate it. The gifts were wonderful but the time spent together that evening was even better! I want to especially thank Sue, KJ, Lori, Colleen and Beth for all the good eats along with all the others who helped set-up the club.
This month we’ll have some work to do on the old pier. We did an emergency repair on it last week and there are several spots that need to be reinforced. There are also a couple of fingers that need an anchor or need the anchors adjusted on them. I look forward to your help on these projects.
I don’t show any permits expiring in April and I appreciate all who have given me copies. Keep up the good work and let’s continue making our little corner of paradise just a little better.
Aloha

Aloha loyal ILYC members. Another month and another party successfully celebrated. I think we can all agree the St Patty’s day party would have been appreciated by the purest Irishman or woman. Kudos to the kitchen assistants that really put out some delicious Corned Beef, Cabbage and potatoes, I guess next year we’ll need 20LBS of Corned Beef! I certainly know how to pour a Black and Tan or Half and Half now! This month there is not a planned party, so the next one on the horizon is Cinco d’ Mayo / Kentucky Derby party. Look for Margaritas and Mint Juleps along with plenty of good Mexican food. If we have any Mexican members your input on food (recipes) and the party would be greatly appreciated. Work day is the 7th this month and of course lunch will be provided for the hard working crew that turns out to spruce up the best club in Hawaii. Thanks and see you on the water.
Gary Harvell
Aloha all boaters and fellow ILYC members:
Many thanks to all of you that have continued to come out to the club and help on work days, for those of you that don’t come out YOU are missing out on the fellowship of the club and giving away CASH. For each work day you attend and HELP out, you get one work chit, two chits per quarter is a 50% reduction in your slip fees (one work chit is a 25% reduction). I don’t know about you but I hate giving away hard cash. For those members deployed, God bless you, keep up the good work and we are thinking of you and wish you your safe return, the above does not apply to you.
I wish to thank our Commodore, Port Captain, Gregory, and all the others who helped on the March workday but also with the emergency repairs to a broken water pipe and the second repairs the following week. All is working well now and many thanks, as I’m sure Charlie will thank you for our lower utility bills. ALSO many thanks to Lori for her assistance with being there at the club to meet the ice machine repairman. We now have a clean and working ice machine.
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL AT THE APRIL WORK DAY ON SATURDAY, APRIL 7th

Rusty's tips
Here is a recipe some of you asked Harla for from a guest she brought to the club one weekend. The salad can contain as much or as little ingredients as you’d like, but don’t forget to put this vinegarette over it all. Thanks again Harla!
Subject: Wasabi Vinegarette
1 teaspoon wasabi paste 2 tablesphoons low sodium shoyu
2 talespoons seasoned or plain rice vinegar 6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Whisk the first three ingredients to blend. Whisk in the olive oil slowly to avoid emulsifying.

The Last Word – Computers This month’s edition of The Arrow may seem a little light to some of you, well I didn’t put in quite as much effort into this one as I would have liked to. Unfortunately I’ve spent the last five days fighting with a computer and loosing each day. Finally yesterday I gave up the fight in a big way, I’ve switched from a MS PC to an iMac…so if things seem a little odd or don’t exactly fit the way your used to, please let me know…I’m trying to quickly become iMac proficient and at the same time keep all of my PC friends informed of what is happening in our club.
