The
“TNT” FJ (and other sailboats) Trailer.
I have used this trailer since 1976- in my opinion, it is the best trailer ever for towing. It was originally designed by Paul Hemker- FJ builder and built by Taube and Taube Tool Company, in Richmond IN.
It allows the boat to ride low, and mostly enclosed within
the “box”. The fenders are strong
enough to stand on, and the trailer is VERY strong, though a bit heavy (300
lbs.). NO effect of cross winds.
Material is steel channel (see the drawing). The channels are open on the inside of
the trailer. The entire trailer is
welded.
The bolsters are redwood, covered w/ indoor/outdoor
carpeting. Bolted using a recessed
(into the wood) cap screw, through a steel bracket. The bracket goes over a cross beam, bolted, and allows the
bolsters to pivot, and shape to the hull.
I have (many times) double-decked on this trailer- and the
plans for the bolsters are also included.
Uses a 7/8” ball.
Use a rubber trailer roller in center back, as a bumper for
the bow, and as the top for the mast carrier.
