As of Spring 2008, the officers of the Coeur d'Alene Sailing Association have collectively decided to tentatively suspend all club activities and events. In 2003 this small handful of dedicated individuals devoted countless hours of work to creating this sailing club. It was a larger project than it might appear, drafting bylaws, arranging an affiliation with US Sailing, attaining insurance, developing an education program, procuring racing equipment and a committee boat, planning and hosting events, building this website and even securing non-profit status for tax purposes. Even after the initial startup was complete, the club still required a fair amount of attention on a monthly basis, planning events and tending to administrative duties. Part of the process that perpetuates an organization like this is the election and rotation of officers and staff. While there has been a fair amount of member participation in the club activities, it has been difficult to find anyone able and willing to step in and relieve any of these charter officers of their responsibilities. Understandably, many of these club founders are ready for a break. They have all gone way above and beyond any reasonable expectations by continuing their service indefinitely, with no end in sight. Since the club is financially stable and there seems to be a fair amount of interest and membership, the decision was made not to dissolve the the organization right away, in hopes that some individuals would come forward and take things over. If you are interested in stepping in (you must be a little bit interested if you read this far!) please contact us and someone will be glad to explain what is involved.
Fair winds,
For Information
email us at Welcome to the Coeur d'Alene Sailing Association website. The Coeur d'Alene Sailing Association was established in 2003. With Lake Coeur d'Alene as its backdrop, CSA offers sailing opportunities for all ages and interests. With racing and cruising events and our education program, there is something for almost everyone. Come join us on the lake. Each year we have a packed schedule of events. There is hardly a week all summer that the club isn't getting together for some fun. We have a full racing schedule and many social events. In addition to three different Wednesday night series and several weekend races, we have a major racing event each season called The Brien Duncan Cup CDA Regatta. There will be Several one-design classes, including J-24s, Stars, and any other class with enough sign-ups to justify formation of a one-design class. For the cruisers, we have the traditional events; the Memorial Day Harrison Cruise, the Ship/Captain and Crew Race (more of a poker run than a race), a Champagne and Chocolate Social (raft-up), the Cruisers' Buoy Race and boat parade, and the Labor Day Harrison Cruise, along with other cruising / family oriented events. The club's Education program is expanding each year. In April and in October we are including a Coastal Navigation course. We are expanding the youth sailing program as well. In an effort to promote youth sailing, CSA is seeking sponsorship to help with the purchase of some Optimist prams for our youth to learn to sail, and then race. Sponsors will be able to make donations to the program, and in return receive advertising on "their boat". We are now working with North Idaho College (NIC) in a joint effort to expand both sailing programs. This will move the sailing school to NIC, which is a more convenient location. Join our email list! Even if you are not a club member, you can receive updates and information on upcoming club events. Many club activities are open to non-members, (but we're sure you'll want to join!) Send us your name and email address at: mail@cdasailing.com, and we'll add you to our e-mailing list.
