Sailing Education Program Coastal Navigation Information (MS Word) Youth Sailing Education Program (MS Word) Discover Sailing Education Program (MS Word)
Coeur d'Alene Sailing Association has a great Education program for both youth and adults. The club sent Gaston Martin to US Sailings instructor's certification class. 2003 was the pilot program with a beginning youth sailing program. After spending the summer with these kids, Gaston certified the program's first sailors, some of whom went on to race in the fall, and some even bought their first boat. The program will include the beginning youth class, an Intermediate youth class, an Adult class, and a Coastal Navigation class. The program is well equipped to teach new sailors of all ages. For more information email Gaston Martin. There is a scholarship fund available to would-be sailors who can not afford to attend classes. The Brien Duncan Memorial Scholarship fund was set up in 2004 after the passing of one of the club's members. To apply please contact Gaston. We are increasing our efforts to bring youth to sailing. In the past we have relied on borrowed boats to teach our youth to sail. After their classes were over we had little else to provide them. That is about to change. We are starting an active campaign to purchase Optimist prams for our youth to learn and race on. After we give them the skills to sail, we will offer them a racing program to put their skills to the test. The Optimist Pram is the one-design of choice for youth up to 15 years old, and is raced world-wide. We will take the kids on the road to sailing events for them to gain racing experience. We are seeking sponsorship for the boats that will help to get a large fleet started. Check here information about sponsoring one of these boats Beginning Youth
