In Honor of Brien Duncan
Brien Duncan Brien Duncan was invited to crew on a J-44 in Miami, Florida when he suddenly became ill and suffered a heart attack while sailing. He was admitted into the hospital where he eventually passed away on February 28, 2004. Brien has been a long time active member of Coeur d'Alene Sailing. He has served as race committee chairman and was one of the people instrumental in rebuilding the club in 2003. His passion for sailing was evident. He readily shared his love for sailing with others. His enthusiasm helped to inspire people to want to become a part of the sport he loved. Brien will be missed by all who knew him and especially those of us in CSA. A scholarship fund has been set up to educate youth sailors that otherwise would not have the funds to attend CSA's sailing school. Contact Jim Carrick for details. The Brien Duncan Memorial Cup We have made this a two day regatta and are inviting J24 boats to compete for the Brien Duncan Cup. (All types of boats are invited to race.) To honor Brien the club organized a buoy race to remember Brien the way we believed he would have wanted. Good friend and sailing partner Keith Grzlak had a silver cup made memorializing Brien and presented it to the club for top honors of the race. This will be a perpetual trophy and will be available for viewing at Brix Restaurant in CDA. We thank Jerry Goggins, owner of Brix and also a sailor who knew Brien, for displaying the trophy. After racing on Saturday we will meet at the Brixs in CDA for socializing.
