The Crab Orchard Lake Sailing Association is a non-profit 501c 7 organization whose operational expenses are primarily paid through membership dues. Our dues cover costs such as the annual racing program which include regatta insurance and committee boat storage and operation. Dues also pay for the monthly publication Wind Word and member handbook, as well as recruitment and promotional materials. Dues for 2006 are $30 per family.
The dues do not cover slip fees at the lake, as the club does not own, lease or maintain the sailing harbor facility. Slip fees are paid to the US Fish and Wildlife Service at the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge headquarters. Boats can be left in the marina year round. Many members also opt to trailer their boats to the lake. Boat ownership is not required to join COLSA.
