The Emily  J. "Emmy" Magoon Trophy was presented by the New England Yacht Racing Council in 2001 in memory of Emmy, a past chairperson of the Adams Cup committee, trustee of the Adams Cup, and a recipient of the President's Award at US Sailing for her dedication to sailing in a variety of areas. She was a recipient of the Mass. Bay Sailing's Distinguished Service Award for Sailing. She was one of the 13 original inductees into the Marblehead Race Week Hall of Fame and a long standing member of the New England Yacht Racing Council.

In addition to being an accomplished musician playing seven instruments, Emmy was an advocate of women and junior sailing for more than 50 years as a competitor, coach, judge, race committee member and event organizer. She won numerous sailing awards, including the Lee Cup, many times and was a finalist for the Adams Cup several times.  It is most appropriate that this trophy is emblematic of the Junior Women's Doublehanded Championship in Area A.
