Weatherby Lake Yacht Club Racing

 

The main mission of the Weatherby Lake Yacht Club is to foster sailboat racing at Weatherby Lake.  There is a Handicap race every Sunday afternoon, in which boats of all types can race together.  At various times in the past there have also been one-class fleets, such as the Laser fleet, Snipe fleet, Butterfly fleet, and so on.  There are also special events such as the Regatta, when skippers and boats from all over the Midwest come to Weatherby Lake to race, and the Long Distance Classic race.  And don't forget the parties, which are probably the best at Weatherby Lake!  Any homeowner can join the Yacht Club--you don't have to own a sailboat.  So come on and join the fun!

COMMODORE’S CORNER

WLYC Balloon Race

Sat. Aug. 28, 2010 – Ray's Great Balloon Race, C-Point,  Approximately 8:00 pm or 30 minutes before dark. This is a family event and all of Weatherby Lake and guests are invited.  Bring your flashlights and fish nets to catch those balloons on the lake.

Sun. Aug. 29, 2010 – Race 1 & 2 & 3, Frostbite Series, 1:30 pm

King Series Races

Sat. Sept. 11, 2010 – King Series Races, C Point, Practice from 7:00 am to 9:00 am, Skippers meeting 9:00 am, Races start at 10:00 am. Come see the top sailors compete for the best skipper & crew of the year award.

Sun. Sept. 12, 2010 – Race 4 & 5 & 6, Frostbite Series, 1:30 pm  

Long Distance Classic Race

Sat. Sept. 18, 2010 – WLYC Long Distance Classic Race, C Point.  Skippers meeting at noon . 1st boat starts at 1:00 pm. Race ends at 4:00 pm.

Sat. Sept. 18, 2010 – WLYC Long Distance Classic Party With Food & Dancing, C Point, 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm.  Adults charged, children under 12 free.  Good food, great music, and wild dancing.

Sun. Sept. 19, 2010 – Race 7 & 8, Frostbite Series, 10:00 am, then Pull Boats

Sat. Nov. 13, 2010 – Awards Dinner & Party, Community Center, 6:00 pm

Thu. Nov. 25, 2010 – Thanksgiving Day Sail & Party, Sail from 11:00 am to noon, Party at Don & Diane Coleman’s home at 7902 Scenic Dr.

Fun Sailing Practice

Every Wednesday at 6pm after May 1 –  Fun Sailing Practice, just show up at C-Point.  All interested potential sailors are invited.
