Area D For the Joe James Cup This year’s Semi Finals for the US Match Racing Championship was highlighted by the inaugural presentation of the Joe James Cup. The James Cup is to honor Dr. Joseph James of the Carolina Yacht Club, Wrightsville N.C. The generosity of the Carolina Yacht Club and Area D members allowed for the creation of a trophy that recognizes the outstanding contributions made by Dr. James in the development of match racing in Area D, nationally and internationally. Area D is proud and grateful that we are the recipients of the knowledge, time and efforts of one who has given so much to the sport that he cherishes. Robby Brown and his crew from the Florida Sailing Association won the Semi Finals and the Joe James Cup for 2004. We see Joe presenting the trophy to Robby ( middle ) and his crew at the awards banquet hosted by Hobcaw Yacht Club. A special thanks to all of the members of the Hobcaw Yacht Club and to the many Race Committee members from the Charleston Area for such a well run regatta. Three round robins were completed with teams from Gulf Yachting Association, Florida Sailing Association and SAYRA taking part. Although Dixie Inland Yacht Racing Association were not able to field a team, their full support was given to the Area D Semi Finals. Dr. James has pointed the way and we are now should give back to the sport as he has given to us. We only hope that we can do half as well as we have received. |
