|
| The New England Women's Championship grew out of the
semi-finals for the Mrs. Charles Francis Adams Cup and, in 1956, the Colt Trophy was
deeded to the New England Yacht Racing Council as the prize for this competition.
The trophy honors Commodore Colt of the Sakonnet Yacht Club and its donor, Mrs. Colt, has
served as Trustee of the Mrs. Adams Cup. It was originally donated for competition
between Narragansett Bay and Eastern Connecticut, but Southern Massachusetts was later
included. Prior to its deeding to NEYRC, it was won in 1953 by Watch Hill, in 1954
by Pine Orchard and in 1955 by Beverly. The following are winners of the New England
Women's Championship.
